Baking - Hospitality

Lamingtons

Preheated the oven to 190 degrees. After that, we measured the sides of the baking paper. Mix the flour and eggs into the bowl and sift it. Mix the butter and boiling water to the side of the bowl. Folded it in with a spatula to combine it.
We poured the mixture into the tin and baked for 20-25 minutes. The oven temperature also needs to be stable and not fluctuating throughout the cooking process. One thing you notice if the bread is cooked is it's perfectly formed and if you look at the cake if it is starting to shrink from the sides it indicates that the cake is cooked. Or you can press the cake lightly with a fingertip, if it feels firm to the touch and springs back the cake is cooked.

Mixing method: To mix it, dip the little cake cubes into the chocolate or any flavor provided and roll them around to blend and coat completely. After that, prepare the coconut to blend lightly.

Vegetable Baskets

When it comes to vegetables, we washed it first before slicing it into cubes. After that, we put the vegetables in the grill basket and waited for about 20-25 minutes until they are brown and cooked evenly.

Importance of Knife Storage

It is important for having storage for all the knives in the kitchen to keep the kitchen organized and safe.

Importance of having Different Cutting Boards

Having a proper cutting board is important because it keeps a knife from going dull too soon. There are different kinds of cutting boards for different ingredients.

Yellow - the yellow cutting board is for raw poultry like chicken.
White - the white cutting board is for dairy products like cheese and butter.
Green - the green cutting board is for vegetables and fruits.
Red - the red cutting board is for raw meat.

It is important to know what cutting board to use when it comes to cutting the ingredients so that we will avoid cross-contamination and remain the cleanliness of the place.

Sharpening of Knives

It is important to keep the sharp edge on your blade for our own safety. There are two ways on how to sharpen a knife.

1. Grinding - this process is basically the removal of metal.
2. Honing - this is where a small amount of material is removed from the surface by the means of abrasive stones. After having the right shape and while using an aggressive grit, switch to a finer grit to hone the edge.

Setting up the station

Once we go inside our station, we only get the cutting boards or knives that are needed for our ingredients. It is important to keep our place tidy and safe to avoid accidents, especially on knives.

Art History

Artwork: The Starry Night
Artist: Vincent Van Gogh
Date the artwork was made: June 1889
Medium: Oil paint
Dimensions: 74 cm x 92 cm
Location: The Museum of Modern Art

Task 2

2 websites on the media used in The Starry Night:

Youtube Clips:

The paint that was used in the painting which is The Starry Night was an oil painting. Oil painting is the kind of painting that takes time when it comes to drying the artwork. This painting is not a disadvantage because it can improve your painting moderately. The artist can have a chance to change the details of his/her artwork if he wants because most of the oil paints don’t spread around the canvas and it blends naturally. Oil painting was known to be the most unique of the painting techniques in the history of art. Many famous poets and artists used the oil painting technique like Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh.
One of the oil painting technique is scumbling. It is to put a small amount of paint on your canvas. The result of the texture is beautiful and it is mostly used for a smooth atmosphere of a painting.
Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece which is “The Starry Night” was an Impasto oil technique. This technique is applying a big amount of paint on the canvas to make it thick which makes the brush strokes visible. When it dries, it has a texture that makes the painting looked like it expresses itself by popping the paint out and dried. The details of the paint are also clear which makes it captivating to look at. That was the effect of Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” to a lot of people that have seen his artwork
The Impasto oil technique is the exact opposite of the scumbling oil technique. Scumbling is recommended for a smooth-paced artwork while Impasto was for the art of heavy and thick expressionism. Van Gogh was known for using an Impasto technique. Most of his paintings were an Impasto technique such as “Wheatfield with Crows”, “Almond Blossoms”, “Sunflowers”, and many more.
The Impasto technique makes me understand the deeper purpose of the painting because the texture speaks for itself. The feeling of the painting expresses more because of the popped out details and the thick atmosphere had an effect on the artworks.

Reading Response

This reading response was about the text I read from the Reading Comprehension Box. The text was titled "Pandora's Box".

Related image

The Pandora's Box is a Greek myth. The main idea of this text is about how the bad personalities or the evil came to exist in this world.

Supporting Details:
* Zeus, the king of the gods
* 'Pandora', meaning 'all-gifted'
* Epimetheus, Pandora's husband

I chose this text because I like reading Greek myths and I also want to discover more about the Greek gods and goddesses.
After reading the 'Pandora's Box', I learned that there are a lot of characters in Greek myths, I realized that it is not just all about the story of Greek gods and goddesses. There are a lot more deeper just like this topic. It was also giving us the lessons that each of us needs to be aware of like having hope in every life's journey.
